This movie is actually pretty fun!

Sure, not all the humour hits, there’s a weak villain and the plot is formulaic, but the characters really work and there’s a style that sings.

The design of the city is great, and there’s several stylistic choices which I think this movie pops - and that’s the element of the new DCU I may be most excited for - individual and recognisable directorial styles. It’s gonna be great.

    The characters and family dynamic…

    What a disappointment.

I knew this wasn't going to be anything like the comic book arc, but I still was expecting something better than this. This is the best romcom ever, it’s so simple and sweet and complex and funny and the music is just excellent.

The plot isn’t great, but man this film has style. Definitely style over substance as the message falters a little at the end, but the lighting and cinematography, and music and choreography are just beautiful.

One complaint I had about Endgame was that it was too much fan service and spectacle, and not enough actual content. I was worried I’d have that complaint here, but I don’t.

Not only is it a spectacle, but it also has so much heart, so much great humour and quite a bit of meaning behind it.

One complaint I would have is the pacing early on.

That’s all I’ll say for now, because I think I need a rewatch for a full opinion.

The true strength of this movie comes from its realism. And I’m not talking about how it’s realistic in the sense of gadgets and suit and vehicles - where that is all true, the real strength for me is how realistically it shows what being The Batman would do to someone’s mindset and outlook.

These films are all brilliantly set up in the first act, with narration that is just so damn cool, and great dialogue with Alfred, just not…
