Lady Bird

Lady Bird ★★★★

100-word review: Greta Gerwig packs more film in a 94-minute runtime than most of her contemporaries manage in projects one and a half times as long, and that's a relief — and a great accomplishment for someone as relatively 'new' to directing as she. Regardless of whether Lady Bird's 'complicated mother-daughter relationship' theme lectures the viewer a little too openly, the film does, without fail, strike the emotional chords it wants to. Hadn't seen a real Saoirse Ronan picture in a long while; she's terrific. This hits all the necessary coming-of-age beats plus some more (perhaps region-specific ones).
