Lucas’s review published on Letterboxd:
A History of Violence is a very layered film. We start with an idyllic family in a blissful suburban town. Everything is unnervingly perfect. Viggo Mortensen plays this up beautifully with his slightly surrealist style of acting. From there, Cronenberg peels back the layers one by one, gradually revealing a very dark core hidden behind the layers of false utopia. In doing so, Cronenberg creates a very powerful and intriguing film.
