Le Amiche

brilliant. very interesting that this came out the same year as another film i especially like - bergman's smiles of a summer night. although this shares elements with that it's clearly more of a romantic tragedy than a romantic comedy
at first i wasn't sure how to differentiate this from other films of the period but then i started to feel the sense of alienation and gender dynamics creeping in and it hooked me from then on
i'd also be surprised if phantom thread didn't take inspiration from the fashion show scene as they're virtually identically mises en scène (wow i sound pretentious, love it)
this is the second antonioni i've seen (i didn't get blow-up but feel like i might now) and i have to say: i'm hooked
