I’m an actor, director, writer & producer. My latest, It’s Just A Game, is out now from Wild Eye Releasing.
Hey, have you ever wanted to see Toni Basil as a ghost who is fighting a demon in a film clearly inspired by A Nightmare On Elm Street that also takes place at Alcatraz for some reason?
No, you don’t.
Seriously, this wasn’t the worst thing I’ve seen and it has many entertaining bits to it but mostly I was underwhelmed and kind of bored with it.
This is absolutely one of my favorite movies. Brian DePalma. Jessica Harper. Paul Williams. PAUL F’ING WILLIAMS. And possibly the greatest soundtrack in movie history.
The first time I watched it, I went into this film blind, with absolutely no idea what it was or what it was about. What I found was an odd mishmash of genres - horror, comedy, musical, noir - that should not work but is absolutely magical in its composition.
One thing I have always…
This one has all of the hallmarks of a proper Giallo film: sex, murder, intrigue and a black-gloved mystery assailant. It also ends on the side of a cliff, as so many of these films seem to.
I found the “who killed whom for who’s life insurance” plot to be a little mundane for what I have come to expect from Italian cinema. Even so, it kept me guessing until the end and was a beautifully shot jaunt through the seedier side of the wealthy and famous.
