Mike de Raaf’s review published on Letterboxd:
Shane Black knows how to film buddy cop action comedy. As expected, the main attraction is the cast of colourful characters and witty dialogue. Russel Crowe, Ryan Gosling, and Angourie Rice are great together. Unfortunately, the plot is flat and needlessly convoluted. It somehow manages to involve environmental issues, the automotive industry, and the porn industry. I had a hard time caring about any of it.
The tragic part of this experience was how much of the comedy was shown in trailers. There is more in the film then what is advertised but most of the set piece scenes are spoiled. Even though the comedic impact was diluted, this was still a pretty good time.
