“I need to return some video tapes,”
For me, this is Bale’s best role and performance. He perfectly captures the absolute insanity and breakdown of the central character. There’s a perfect blend of absolute horror, and dark humour, mostly carried by Bale throughout.
You could spend hours trying to dissect and evaluate just what happens in this movie and what it actually means, and that’s one of the fantastic aspects of the film. It makes the viewer think. Leaving it open ended, I’ve got friends who have so many theories about this film, and I’m sure that none of us have probably hit the nail on the head. But does it matter? The film feels like it is more of a critique on Male culture, especially that of corporate businessmen and their lifestyles, and it works brilliantly.
