Burning ★★★★½

“I wanted to vanish just like that sunset.”

Just god damn terrific. Really wish I caught this in theaters. Amazing look to the film when it’s *ahem* burning through that last bit of magic hour. A film where each moment is staged without flashy pomp/circumstance, and still manages to illustrate something about its characters.

Reminded me of PERSONAL SHOPPER in all its senses; where you can easily determine the sleight of hand, genre-infused influences, all coalescing into a distinct narrative of its own making. I don’t want to say much else here because I think it’s the sort of picture that benefits from going in blind.

This is my first experience watching a Lee Chang-Dong movie and I cannot wait to see what else this guy has cooked up over the years. Here’s to many more viewings.
