Jojo Rabbit

Jojo Rabbit ★★½

If you use every colour of paint, it feels like it should be exciting, but it turns into a sickly shade of mud through which no hue can be discerned. Managed to hang on to the tonal rollercoaster for the first 20 minutes or so (and high-key loved the opening credits paralleling Beatlemania and Hitler's rise) but am some point went completely off the reservation and mostly sat unreactive through the rest. Did tear up at the end, but honestly: end virtually any film with a variation on that song, using that music cue, and I'd have the same reaction. Credit where credit's due, though: lead actor kid is great and holds together this tonal farrago with aplomb.
