Part of Dastardly Difficult December: film nr.55
Yep. Love it still.
This is a fantastic transfer of one medium to another. Based on Austen's Emma, Clueless manages to capture within it the very essence of the novel, without trying to faithfully adapt it.
It's all about the meddler who does so because she tries to ignore her own life and who, when push comes to shove, has her eyes opened to what is in front of her. It is one if the few novels written by Austen I actually enjoyed, mainly because the protagonist was refreshingly different.
In Clueless the lovely Alicia Silverstone updates Emma to a more modern version and is surrounded by a great cast, all given fantastic lines from a very clever script. Sure, it travels the well worn route, but it does so with a wink and a healthy dose of self-awareness, that makes it all just a whole lot of fun.
I have no shame in declaring my love for this film as it just is very good.
