Part of Dastardly Difficult December: film nr.67
So a mate of mine, whom I shall from now on refer to as 'faint acquaintance I've known for 25 years', knows of my undying love for the first Highlander film. He also knows I have taken great efforts to see as little of the horrid sequels as possible. He told me he had seen this one and said it wasn't too shabby. So, trusting his opinion, I tentatively decided to watch this.
I did not know that by 'not too shabby' he actually meant 'complete and utter monkey wank'.
This film is so poorly made it is unbelievable. The swordfights look like rough cuddles with rubber props. Christopher Lambert walks around with his best 'I can't believe they're paying me for this shit' grin and the bad guy is played by someone named after a rejected Nintendo game character.
Story wise it tries to cram even more stupidity into the legend so beautifully crafted in the first film, thus making its right to exist immediately null and void.
For a franchise about immortals they sure keep trying to murder it anyway.
And succeeding admirably.
