Part of Dastardly Difficult December: film nr.71
This felt a bit like the equivalent of a fanboy rant, shouting how much they love what they're paying homage to all the time, forgetting what they should be doing, namely making their own film.
It's not that this is a bad film at all, it just feels like it's trying too hard. The entire film had this feel of ' look how much attention we paid to the original first film, fellow Predator geeks!' which kept distracting me from the decent film that was unfolding in front of my eyes.
I liked some of the set pieces and there were some riveting action sequences, but nothing that really landed. This I blame mainly on the poor casting, most notably Adrien Brody. He is about as convincing an action star as I would be.
Had they tried to make their own film and do something truly original, this could have been something. Now it's merely ok, which is unacceptable for one of cinema's greatest creature creations.
