Part of Dastardly Difficult December: film nr.74
One of the few films with Cage I hadn't seen and I guess the dark December month is as good as any to watch a film I didn't have high hopes for. I mean, let's be honest, a film directed by Brett Ratner about a self centered sleaze bag that discovers his true self because of a glimpse of an alternate universe just sounds like an accident waiting to happen.
And while Ratner doesn't disappoint in his risk free approach and instils no creativity in it whatsoever, it is Cage and the lovely Tea Leoni that save the day. They give warmth to this tried and tested take and make it a surprisingly enjoyable experience.
Seeing this and the atrocious Stolen in the same month only ads to my 'Cage Confusion Syndrome'.
This is a perfect film for this season and a harmless and pleasant cup of Christmas holiday warmth.
