So I think I can definitively give this film 3.5 stars. I liked it a lot, but I felt like there was something missing. The acting was very well done with stellar performances from Angelina Jolie and Clea Duvall in particular, but I’m not sure the plot was all there for me. There were several instances where it dropped subplots where I felt like there should have been a little more time spent on them and inconsistencies in the way the story was told. At the beginning of the film there was a lot of emphasis on time and Susanna’s mind interrupting one story with one from her past and I thought it went really well with the tone of the film, but it completely disregarded that took a third of the way in, never to flash back and forward again. I feel like that was a crucial part to the story, and maybe if it had faded as Susanna got better maybe it would have made more sense but it didn’t.
