I had probably the strangest movie viewing experience of my life last night. I picked 2046 and Band of Outsiders virtually at random off my shelf, not even really having a good idea of what they were about. It turns out they both deal with restless people that don't quite fit in the time and place they find themselves in (with 2046's Mr. Chow literally creating a new universe for part of himself to inhabit). The thing I found so bizarre was that both films made a direct reference to an Indian legend of a bird that is born with no feet so it can never land. Of course, that's an obvious parallel to the fidgety nature of the characters. I don't know, I found it eerie as hell.
