The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 ★★★★

Hoop-tober 3.0

Film 12/32

This is approximately infinity times more bonkers than I was expecting. I knew going in that this was tonally different than it's predecessor but I wasn't quite expecting a nearly 50/50 horror/comedy divide.

Impressively, Tobe Hooper pretty much pulls it off. The attempts at humor are usually successful (in a jarring, off kilter sort of way) and the horror elements - while not approaching those of part one - are genuinely scary.

It's hard to call it a complete success, though. Dennis Hopper's unique talents are mostly squandered as his role is severely limited for some reason. The film would have benefited from some sort of investigation aspect, like the first act hinted at.

Still, great, schlocky, gross fun.
