#18 in Yasujiro Ozu
Feels even earlier than Days of Youth, Ozu's earliest surviving film from the same year, 1929. It's also easily the least Ozu I've ever seen from Japan's greatest; and while this might seem like a negative it allows the director's influences shine through in a more concentrated and fun manner. Tokyo Chorus would do it better in a million different ways, being explicitly in debt to Harold Lloyd, but this one's still so charming. I laughed plenty in such a short runtime.
