love this a lot
A profound meditative experience on loneliness, and the lengths at which we’ll go for any form of satisfaction; as temporary as it may be.
Taiwanese cinema in general really intrigues me with the way it deals with its characters, but Tsai Ming-liang is certainly the main attraction on this front. The way he shoots films; with incredibly long, lingering shots which capture the isolation and helplessness of us as humans, really feels alienating and comforting at the same time.…
you know, I often lose sight of what’s truly important to me. As my film taste evolves, and as I grow up, I seem to become more distant from these movies. But it never really clicked with me until just now, when I was literally sobbing through like 30 minutes of this. I grew up alongside these characters, I struggled and succeeded with them. This is my favourite franchise. Ever.
