Okay France, we get it. You’re just built different but is this shit necessary!??? 😫
Decades before the infamous French Extreme movement, Eyes Without a Face set the standard for challenging, unnerving French horror and in a lot of ways feels like a proto-Martyrs with its cold militaristic brutality. This film is quite magnificent and is pretty hardcore even now and especially for 1960, the surgery scene is one of the hardest to watch I’ve ever sat through. I don’t think the world was ready for it.
