Dorsey’s review published on Letterboxd:
"Cops like killing. That's why they're cops!"
The title Maniac Cop is a redundancy, but not everyone knew that in 1988. It's ahead of its time, in that way, being a story about police violence that centers on white people learning the ugly truth that everyone else already knew and will be happy to tell you as soon as they have a camera in front of their face.
But that might just be me reading into it too much, thirty years later. After all, it's still cops who end up saving the day, but I'm less inclined to call that a bad thing because Bruce Campbell is fine as fuck in this movie. Oh well!
