In the Mood for Love ★★★★½

WRECKED.

Wow.

OK.

I've calmed down.
Sort of.

So In The Mood For Love is arguably one of the most visually stunning movies I've ever seen. Except unlike some movies that really outdo themselves on 'style' with 'no real substance', Wong Kar-Wai completely obliterates me with all kinds of feelings of isolation and loneliness.

I mean look at the first few minutes of this movie alone. Chow and Su both move into a Hong Kong apartment complex as neighbors and you quickly notice WKW always has some sort of framed element associated with either of the main duo. Windows, doors, hallways, bars. He frames it from the very beginning -- reducing both Chow and Su into their own boxes, helping really underscore the brooding feelings of loneliness.

Will be revisiting when I muster up the strength (in about ... 7 more years while my heart recharges) so I can decide if I really liked the ending or I hate this movie for causing me undo stress!
