The Tragedy of Macbeth

The Tragedy of Macbeth ★★★★★

Not much to say about THE TRAGEDY OF MACBETH other than I managed to stay awake through it, on the last day of a film festival, at an 8:30 screening on a Sunday morning. Enrapturing, masterful stuff. Launches itself into my favourite Shakespeare adaptations, and films of the year.

So interesting to see this so closely to Yaël Farber's similarly audacious version at the Almeida. If anything, the Coen version feels far more in keeping with the tone and style of the original text, but Christ, this film looks terrifying, like mildly ethereal fascist propaganda.

If there's any justice, Kathryn Hunter will get best supporting actress nominations for her scarce screentime; jaw-droppingly good.
