2. There is so much joy here: joy in pure, unencumbered movement, joy in movement for movement’s sake. A sense of absurd glory pervades every second of the concert footage. This is an immaculate shrine to screw-loose spirituality. Demme breaks down the timid language of the average concert movie and fashions something revolutionary out of previously existing parts. We may not know where we’re going, indeed, but we do know where we’ve been.
