Visually enchanting and detailed, this is easily Jodorowsky’s most technically brilliant film I’ve yet to see. It’s very surreal and weird in pretty much every way possible. I definitely didn’t know what was happening at times or why but I did find it interesting. I respect Jodorowksy so much for being able to make whole unique films that seem to exist on another plane of existence. He creates awkward worlds that feel like nothing you’d ever see otherwise and yet in a way they feel very real. It feels very incoherent at many times as well but I found it interesting nonetheless, again I’m not sure this is something I can rate until I see it again. I did find good for the most part though, despite the fact that some parts of the story felt pretty disjointed. It’s indescribably attractive in many ways primarily because of the Alchemist and his religious representations as well as the journey to the holy mountain. It almost feels like an obsession that might destroy someone and we see that many have failed to grasp what it promises. I definitely didn’t catch all of the symbolism at all what I did seemed to have to pose and interesting conversation. I think this is probably my favorite of Jodorowskys works so far although I can’t be totally sure, definitely is something though.
