3.0 is a depressingly low average for this brilliant film, Carrey’s best role of the 90’s for my money. What a character this Chip Douglas or Ricky Ricardo or whatever sitcom moniker he chooses to resurrect that day is. Instead of some goofball pet detective or comic villain, he’s a blue collar every man raised on television to idolize those who entertain.

He can be your best friend or your worst enemy, all in the same day perhaps, depending on…

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

As a 10 year old in 1990, the turtles were near ubiquitous in my demographic’s media, whereas Spider-Man was almost nowhere to be found, so forgive me for dragging a heavy ball-and-chain of nostalgia into this comparison. Am I allowed to say I enjoyed this far more than this year’s Spider-verse? No? Well, I’m saying it anyway. I guess I’m a simpleton who prefers a no-frills feel-good story with silly banter and a cool soundtrack. Not to mention a resolution and for the mutant beings to mind their own dimension.

Go into this movie blind, and wish you were blind by the end. Dark empty hallways are scary, no argument from me there, but nothing else in this movie is. In fact, the final 10 or so minutes are some of the silliest I’ve ever seen in a horror film and had me giggling like an idiot. So that’s something, I guess. But the thing is, this isn’t supposed to be a camp horror film and takes itself oddly way…

Fincher’s Wick with an even more robotic lead. But Fassbender has experience playing an android so I guess people are giving him a pass for it. I get it. I’m finding it hard to rate a Fincher lower than 3 stars, so I’ll leave it there for the sake of convenience, what difference does it make really?
Tedious, repetitive, self important. Littered with product placement and droning voiceover. Manufactured drama lacking any tangible human emotion to propel the constant road tripping. I grew really tired of this film about the 70 minute mark. The fight scene was cool though.
