Cube 2: Hypercube

Cube 2: Hypercube ★★

2 x 22 x 22
Cube 2 would have been better titled Cube x Cube. Also known as Cube Squared. Then of course part 3 could have been just Cubed.
I’m not a math expert but I think this film violates most all of the fundamental principles, and some of the abstract ones too. When the rules of the Cube don’t make any sense, it sort of removes any incentive to pay close attention. At least part 1 didn’t make that mistake.

In a practical sense, it’s like some bad improv theater presentation, too many people were thrown into the same room from the start, purely reacting to whatever dumb thing the person standing next to them came up with. Think of your favorite slasher and imagine if they threw all of the characters together in a small room and had them all screaming over each other and waiting to be picked off one by one, that’s what Hypercube tries and fails at.

Also, they probably would have been able to come up with better special effects on a live stage too. Some of the directing choices though made the film sufficiently disorienting, which as it went on, seemed to be the point, so mission accomplished there.

2 stars ⭐⭐, what else could my rating be? 🤩
I’ll probably watch this again sometime in 2202.
