Danny’s review published on Letterboxd:
What a compelling and well written story. When I looked at a 3 hour drama, let alone in a different language, I have to say I was a bit apprehensive about the investment. I can confidently say it was a 3 hours well-spent.
For most of this movie, I wasn’t sure how to feel, and I didn’t know where it was going to go. Even with the play, I wasn’t able to envision what it looked like in action. But the emotional journey you get taken on is immensely satisfying. It was fulfilling to see Kafuku finally show the emotions I felt so early on. It was also tragic to see the pain the characters struggled through.
By the end, there was a sense of healing, and the last scene made me smile. 2/2 on Japanese movies this weekend 👍
