Frustrating , confusing ,convoluted plot , dark , depressing - I loved this movie . Ok so it was hard work but the performances, beautiful cinematography, score and general overwhelming melancholy tone won me over Abs the last 30 mins was fantastic.

Decent horror movie with some great pacing and cool sound design . An interesting take on the immigrant experience but a half hearted and lazy approach to the mother / daughter dynamic . It also slips very quickly into hokey horror and general silliness and most of the jump scares are by the numbers. I think this will appeal to its target audience ( I saw this with my 18 year old daughter ). Fun little movie with a half baked message but pretty darn good for a first effort .

My introduction to Marlene Dietrich was not what I expected - the film itself was one thing ( sets and costumes were incredible) and Marlene was fantastic the narrative was very confusing and crazy and funny and the movie had a dreamlike feel to it that I thought was almost arthouse . I think I have missed something in my film watching career .

Tommy Wiseau is obviously very self aware now and is pandering to his audience but I watched this in a full house and everyone loved it ( including me) The TW phenomenon is all about having fun ( and loving each other of course ) The fact that this was a first time viewing for everyone (UK premiere) and the audience did a sing-a-long said a lot about TW the accidental genius .

Watched this with the great man himself doing an intro and Q & A and a packed house full of disciples . Quite an experience.

Cinema needs Dupieux- he is an absurdist hero but this movie was entertaining and hilarious - he keeps churning out bangers .

Very simple but extremely effective . It’s a rich tapestry of a movie though with some very relatable truths about relationships for everyone . The leads are great and the movie has moments of greatness and I feel it’s a film that feels overrated but with another viewing might prove me wrong . The ending is sublime

Astonishing piece of work which tbh I found too complex and demanding for me at first but as the film progressed I realised this was a masterwork . The interweaving storey and time jumps are incredible and the tone shifts are astonishing. I can’t really review this - in awe.  Christopher Doyle is the DP btw .

The narrative is great with so many plot twists and Vincent Price is fantastic but this was my introduction to Gene Tierney and my goodness what an absolute Goddess. She is of course stunningly beautiful but another one of these Golden Age actresses that were on a different class - can’t wait to continue her filmography.

  • The Equalizer

    The Equalizer

    ★★½

A tad boring and predictable but it’s got Denzel and some cool night shots and some nice kills but the extreme violence didn’t seem to fit with this mainstream movie .  Didn’t really care about the characters and a lot of the dialogue was stilted
Alternatively I could just be an old jaded movie viewer who has seen this type of movie far too many times .

Fantastic Hong Kong thriller with a complex plot but the characters are so engaging and Johnnie To leaves his mark here with the flashes of violence and neon drenched cinematography

Absolutely gripping , multi layered, a beautiful melancholy vibe throughout ( probably helped by the score ) Fascinating characters with a complex narrative of what ifs and alternate realities. Beautiful cinematography and lighting . I could go on - absolutely spellbinding cinema .
