dyl’s review published on Letterboxd:
i can feel you ma and pa. even though i have been away for quite sometime, and i don’t think i’ll ever be back. you taught me the things i shouldn’t do, what i shouldn’t become. i do love you both, despite everything, because you gave me the ability to be able to love, to feel, to touch the earth.
YOU WERE MEANT TO FIND ME
it was the conversation, ma, the one in the car. i was only about 9, or maybe 9+1, or 9+2. you saw us, the naked ones, all joyful, innocent, wild, unaware of what it meant to take off our clothes and jump around. you said things that i can’t remember now, but they swirled around ‘boys’, ‘like’ and ‘do you?’
BODY HEAT
we the animals is a gorgeous journal of a film that possessed me to write something personal. it was the only way for me to express how amazing, moving and beautiful it is. the voice we the animals has is so personal and realistic while being magical and dreamlike. the cinematography is vibrant and the use of 16mm film is like a big yes (i’m a slut for 16mm). this will be underwatched this year, which is damn shame, because it is one of the best films of the year without a doubt. i originally wrote my thoughts down in a notebook right after i finished it because that’s how inspired i was.
