The Witch

The Witch ★★★★½

Robert Eggers sure does know how to make an incredibly well made and disturbing movie huh? If The Lighthouse didn’t already make me appreciate him as a director, this amplifies that. For me, the best types of horror films are the ones that genuinely disturb you, and this easily achieved that. This was a nightmare of a film, one that certainly won’t be leaving my mind anytime soon. From the excellent production design, to the score, to Anya Taylor-Joy’s stunning performance, everything here lines up to make a truly masterful film that hauntingly deconstructs evil and the ‘witch paranoia’ of the early 19th century. This was such a stunning nightmare. I can’t wait to see the Black Philip in my nightmares...
