Unexpected Environmentalism

Environmental disaster is an issue that has become increasingly prevalent in culture over the past ten years, as the challenges we face become increasingly dire. Surprisingly, the number of films dealing with this issue is rather limited. Apart from some more recent works, such as Downsizing, the subject has often been suppressed, perhaps at the enormity of the horror it proposes to our way of life. However, a number of films from previous decades have explored man's impact on the environment, often through elision or genre. This list aims to bring some of those to attention.
