A contemplative story that builds suspense quietly and moves in unexpected directions. Wright is wholly believable as a damaged long-term inmate, and the great intelligence of his performance resonates most when we get glimmers of his younger, more menacing self. The story may seem small but it contains a lifetime of regret.
