Could very well be the best film that was released in 2013. It could very well be the Coen brothers best film so far this century. It is probably my favorite performance of the year by an actor, and it is almost criminal that Oscar Issac wasn't nominated for it. Pulling off the portrayal of "live music" in films [or just films about musicians in general] is extremely difficult and something that is extraordinarily rare when it comes to "getting it right". And with that in mind, this might be the best film about a musician that I've ever seen. It's almost a shame he's fictional. And in a way, he's not anymore. Llewyn Davis deserves an Oscar and a Grammy. And, sadly, he ain't gonna get either one. But isn't that fitting, kinda? Considering it's a story about an incredibly gifted individual who just couldn't catch a break and who success eluded, regardless of talent or merit.
