I was seriously taken aback by this. It's quite comfortably the best Star Wars movie. Outside of certain moments and sequences in the other films, this is the first Star Wars movie that's truly made me care. I felt invested in all the emotional beats, random side plots, and cheesy side characters and dialogue. I finally got that sense of feeling giddy while watching one of these movies.
This might have my favorite cast that I've seen in a blockbuster in recent memory. Loved all the newcomers and the younger generation of characters, and Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher give their best performances in a Star Wars movie. Visually speaking this is also the most impressive film in the franchise. So many finely composed and gorgeous shots here, I mean hell the movie even homages the iconic tracking shot from Wings.
Hats off to Rian Johnson on this one honestly. And Adam Driver too, he's the MVP of the new trilogy so far and I really love the antagonist he has shaped and portrayed.
