God damn what an uncomfortable and scary film! Reminds me a lot of another favorite of mine, the shining. This film was equally terrifying, with an overhanging sense of dread a lot of the time. However, there were lighter moments too, which helped ground the film and elevated the scarier moments through the contrast. Great cinematography, very nice attention to detail, I loved all the nice bokeh and lens flares + close-ups. Very believable and talented child-actors and the score is phenomenal, it really puts you inside the mind of these kids. This is a film that gets under your skin and stays with you.

Was not expecting to be as creeped out by this as I am but here we are.

Amazing set design, costumes and lighting. Really expressionistic and has some cool acting as well but didn’t expect a story as strong as this one from this first ever horror film. (That’s right, Nosferatu is from 1922!) Glad I’ve finally seen it.
