“We can’t affect what happens. We’re just carried along by the current”

Absolutely devastating. The pain of ended relationships, in any form, will ripple forever throughout our lives. The joy of seeing a familiar face one day can be lost instantly the next.

Besides not being a huge fan of narration over the entirety of a short, I thought this was very creative and I was surprised at some experimental visuals that Rian created. As usual, the writing was tight and very particular in its word choice.

“I want to be mentioned in the same breath as the Mona Lisa”

Absolutely thrilling writing. Whenever they would circle back to a point or bring some piece of dialogue, that was so quietly placed at the beginning, back, I would cheer in the theater.

Cinema is about what is inside and what is outside the frame, and both can be manipulated. It is fascinating how easily we put our trust in whatever we are told, even when we had clearly seen otherwise.

One of the best examples of being able to shift tones effectively and easily. One moment you’re laughing, the next you’re on the edge of your seat, then you’re holding back tears. Subtle yet extremely powerful performances all around. Great film.

I have to say this tops Cow as the best of the festival so far. A quiet film that says so much. Also on a side note I had a full conversation with Kogonada after the premiere and I can confirm he is a great man. Now it’s time for me to watch all of his films.
