In Rian we trust!
Directing a Star Wars movie must be a herculean task. You have the weight of 40 years of history on your shoulders. Along with the greatest fanbase ever known (maybe apart from the catholic curch...), countless books, games, you name it.
So after the lackluster prequels J.J. Abrams reignited the flame and now Rian had to take it and try to make it grow even bigger.
And you know what? He burned the fucking house down! TLJ is a great Star Wars movie. It's also a very risky one. It goes to places that none of the others have gone too and beyond. All I can say about the story is that it's not a remake of Empire, like many have feared.
The performances are very strong, especially Mark Hamill, who does his best performance as Luke by far and also Adam Driver are the standouts for me. Also seeing Carrie Fisher almost made me tear up certain times.
The film isn't without its flaws though. At about 2 1/2 hours it's a beast of a movie and the second act kinda drags a little. There are some parts which could have been arranged better or even cut. I also found some cuts or transitions to be kinda weird, a little bit janky.
But that only holds it back from being a perfect 5/5 movie.
It's a great movie and a fantastic Star Wars movie, which will probably make a lot of people debate real hard. But that's also one of the things People like about Star Wars: Talking about Star Wars.
Thank you Rian!
