Annette ★★★★

Annette is the epitome of a film you cannot judge on first glance.

I was very skeptical about this when I seen the poster and read the synopsis. I knew it was made by Leo’s Carax and I won’t go into what I feel about Holy Motors because I don’t have the energy atm. Once in the screen the film started and I thought okay this is going to be hell but I had plenty of snacks and was out the house with one of my favourite people (love you boo) so I thought let’s av it. My major gripes at first was the comedy sketches and the spontaneous songs that I personally didn’t feel like they fit.

Anyway so it’s about 45 minutes in and then the scene on the boat comes on and I put my snacks down and pick a plate up because I realise I’m about to eat my words.

This film is amazing. The first parts are still not for me and that’s just the way it is but by the end of the film so much more makes sense about Caraxs choices of style in the film. The songs are fantastic. Driver and Cotillard are exceptional and Helberg was surprisingly superb. Please see this film.
