The Double Life of Véronique

The Double Life of Véronique ★★★★★

Rather than character development, Kieslowski applies all of his effort and cinematic talents to make Irène Jacob blossom as a flower. The soul is interpreted as a reflection of a possible alternate reality. This concept, of course, is merely fantasy; however, the feeling and intentions behind are not. Out there is every soul's missing half, but the movie reminds us that no matter how hard we struggle against our being, in the end, the sole fact of accepting ourselves instantly puts us once again in a determined, earthly context we cannot possibly control.
