Between Fitzgerald and Kazan, this should have been a lot more than it was. It started off really strong but I didn't believe in the central romance. Robert De Niro and Ingrid Boulting's chemistry was non-existent. That being said, there are some nice moments, and De Niro gives a fantastic performance in the lead role. The movie was at its best when it was a commentary or a reflection of Irving Thalberg's life and career. The Golden Age was a fascinating time, and it's disappointing that there are so few truly great cinematic depictions of it. Maybe truth is stranger than fiction.

Don't know how I spent my entire life never having seen this. It's interesting to judge a Disney animated film without the lens of my own nostalgia. That being said, most of the top tier animated canon for me are ones that have gotten better as I've gotten older. Anyway, the Aristocats reminded me a bit of 101 Dalmatians, a bit of Lady and the Tramp, but with less urgency. The period between Walt's death in 1966 and The Little Mermaid in 1989 was a fascinating time for the company.

Was actually a lot better than I thought it was going to be until the ending. After that... what's the point?

I hope the ghosts of Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek haunt Oliver Stone.
