Betty Hutton, I positively adore you! Honestly, Hutton may have possibly been the greatest choice for the role of Annie Oakley here, and I say this knowing that Judy Garland was originally cast in the role.

Anyway, I really don't know why I put this off for so damn long. This was really fun! That's not to say it doesn't have its flaws because Lord knows it does (that final scene before the closing number? Yeah, that'll ruffle some feathers,…

i was gonna try and write something insightful about this very interesting film but after seeing two year old tyrone power in the last minute or so in all his adorable on-screen debut glory... head empty no thoughts only fawning over baby tyrone now <3

(really cool to see his mother and father in the leading roles, though!)

I... I'm not really sure what to say. Seriously, what the hell was this? I'm just sat here laughing, but I'm also sort of awestruck.

An absolute batshit bonkers rollercoaster ride of an improbable story, and I genuinely enjoyed every single absurd, messy minute of it.

    River of No Return

As many have pointed out, Marilyn Monroe doesn't get the credit she deserves for how good of an actress she was, especially in these sorts of roles. I love her in pretty much everything I've seen her in, but these dramatic parts gave her the opportunity to truly shine and showcase the talent that was almost always overshadowed by her beauty, sexuality, and the infamous image so meticulously cultivated for her. Though the film itself is no masterpiece (and it's…

This was lovely, and now I feel badly that I put it off for literal years. I enjoyed it quite a bit, especially due to the cast at large which includes the brilliant John Garfield, appearing in his debut role.

That said, however, thank goodness for the 1954 Doris Day–Frank Sinatra remake (Young at Heart, my beloved ❤️) cos it certainly fixed up that ending!

Okay but really, somehow did find myself much more invested in this film about farm community drama than I initially thought I would be. The story keeps moving at a fairly consistent pace that easily keeps one hooked into it, and the performances all around are great which certainly helps. Though there's nothing particularly outstanding here, the end product is a surprisingly decent film.

We don't talk enough about what a tremendously brilliant and affecting little actress Margaret O'Brien was, which is a darn shame. Charming, endearing, and adorable to boot!

The film itself is so-and-so for the most part but certainly has its more elevated moments here and there. Was in the mood for a little easy, breezy saccharine story that a lot of O'Brien's '40s films often brought to the table, and this definitely delivered on that front.

It took me just over 7 hours to finish this but finally! I can strike it off my list.

Okay, so, I guess I'm joining the "appreciated it but didn't like it much" club! Sorry to say, I didn't love this as much as most people seem to. I wanted to like it, tried really very hard to, but alas. Oof, that does feel almost blasphemous to admit!

While I enjoyed some scenes and aspects of the story, as well…
