I love the LA locations, the 50s American-pop hyperrealism and that Bruce Vilanch cameo, but my God, Richard Gere overacts to the point of annoyance. He's exhausting to watch and listen to.
Wildly unpopular opinion here, I know, but he's woefully miscast. Imagine a cool-as-cucumber Matt Dillon in the title role, or a real loose canon like Ray Liotta or Eric Roberts. That would be sexy, dangerous and electric. Everything this remake isn't.
