Can You Ever Forgive Me? ★★★★★

There’s a lot to be said about evoking deep loneliness without losing a laugh, and capturing the emotional pull of having a cat that sounds trivial until it happens to you.

I’d never given Melissa McCarthy much credit but this is a sensational turn, a really difficult and conflicted psyche played with gravity and outstanding sensibility.

A really special film about words and trust, confidence and pride, with a performance to remember.
