Here Laura Dern pulls off a completely decent performance in the middle of a total dumpster fire of a movie--and believe me, I mean dumpster fire in the absolute most awesome way possible. Nic Cage does an incredible Nic Cage before it was cool, characteristically see-sawing between robotic abject boredom and unhinged overacting. Throw in a bonkers supporting cast and some expertly placed ultra-corny Wizard of Oz references, and I AM IN! Full disclosure: I kinda hate David Lynch movies. Twin Peaks the series is near and dear to my heart, though, and this had enough of a legit plot with all the kooky drama and weirdness of Twin Peaks that I love to be great. And, you know, Nicolas Cage. I'm so glad I watched it.
