    The Girl on the Train

The Girl on the Train does its best Gone Girl impersonation, but stumbles in every aspect. Emily Blunt is terrific, but I couldn't grasp much else to like in the film.

  • Deepwater Horizon

    Deepwater Horizon

    ★★★

I did not particularly enjoy Deepwater Horizon, but that is not wholly due to fault in the filmmaking. It deals with macabre subject matter, a real life disaster, and I commend Peter Berg for how he portrays it in the film.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

    ★★

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children contains a lot of what I do like about Tim Burton films, but then a lot of what I dislike about his films also. With a confusing plot towards the end of the film, and not enough fleshing out of the characters, it ultimately fails to impress.

  • The Magnificent Seven

    The Magnificent Seven

    ★★★

The Magnificent Seven is a competent modern take on the age-old premise of renegades banding together to defend the people. Ultimately, it fails to reach the heights of the films in a similar vein that preceded it.
