A film that feels like a memory. Fractured, obscured, distant, yet achingly close.
    Gorgeous direction and outstanding performances.
Paul Mescal really is the guy casting directors hire when they need a repressed yet softly spoken and kind male figure.
I’m also a sucker for films that take place in the late 90s/early 2000s.

    Wonderwall

    ★★½

I watched this purely for the score composed by George Harrison (the first solo Beatle album!)
A fascinating mix of mostly Indian music and some western rock that is impressively nuanced given this was Harrison’s first attempt at scoring.

The film’s themes of isolation, the shallowness of fame, and celebrity obsession are all interesting, but overall the paper-thin plot of Wonderwall needed further development.

Still, a trippy and psychedelic experience borne from the last gasps of the 1960’s dream.

A complete and total revelation. Not only do we get insights into The Beatles’ creative process, we get to see them as human beings. We form a greater understanding of who these four guys were and what they meant to each other.
To end with the complete rooftop performance was such a delightful payoff and it also looks and sounds incredible.
Peter Jackson crafted a truly compelling story out of 56 hours of footage and I think this series will be held up as the preeminent Beatles film.

They shoulda nominated the accordion scene for best original song at the Oscars.
