In light of recent events I liked it a little bit less! This is only the second time I’ve ever seen it and the first was after a very bad broken heart. I thought because of the time and distance from that time in my life I wouldn’t feel as much pain for Elio but somehow I felt even more for him, because I’ve lost a tiny amount of the naivety that he had since my last watch. Because I can see my last heart ache so much more clearly because of that distance.

Sometimes you love someone because of who they are and sometimes you love someone despite who they are and Blindspotting reminded me of that—that sometimes you feel like a well that doesn’t dry, cursed to do all the caring for the people around you. Beyond that, Blindspotting was stunning poetry. Frightening in a way that’s parallel to the main character’s daily anxieties. Daveed Diggs is friendly, is familiar, is awestriking. The movie moved through him effortlessly. And Rafael Casal is an artist, my heart broke and stretched for him and his bottom piece grill. I’m amazed by this movie.

As a half Asian girl, as a lover of symmetry and colors and typography and big romantic gestures, as a believer in the sweetness of young love and daydreams and goodness and living in your own head—this movie meant so so much to me. As soon as it ended I started it over. Lara Jean is real and kind. She reminds me of me. I’m so happy this movie was made.
