The Nice Guys

The Nice Guys ★★★★

Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling have great chemistry (is it because they're both named after birds?), their banter being the highlight of this film. Gosling's daughter Holly as the third wheel might be even more impressive, being the one responsible for some of the biggest laughs. Many of the minor characters have their share of amusing moments, as well. All around an excellent cast of characters with performances to back them up.

Shane Black is great at writing dialogue, though there's this pattern forming of him losing me a little when it comes to the surrounding events. The plot itself is pretty compelling, but the way it's all put together feels a bit messy at times - the same feeling I got from Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. That said, this film is overall a very fun time and Black's best work yet.
