    This movie is, among other things:

    --an incredibly incisive portrait of the corrosive ways that abuse ripples through a society, like petals on a flower or cancerous cells overtaking their host. Earl and Jimmy's actions destroyed families, coworkers, barely connected sidebars. The antibodies to their actions aren't confrontational or conflict driven. They're just decent guys who are decent in the face of everything.

    This movie is like a full-motion video game spinoff of a Tim Burton movie that never existed, where Keira Knightley is the best actress in the community theater of the little company town for the studio that made the game.

    Of late, there's been a marked rise in art that recognizes the obscenity of ultra-wealth while also not having much to say beyond, "Isn't this obscene?" I don't think there's anything wrong with this, mind. Pointing at the obscenity and calling it what it is is worthwhile in a world where a lot of our media doesn't do that.
