apart from carey mulligan being very good and the soundtrack/visual aesthetic, it’s ultimately frustrating — just not in the way it means to be. instead of following through on its introduced discussion of grief, we instead get to watch women be manipulated and murdered...but it’s okay, because one guy gets arrested? something about portraying most of the predatory and threatening behaviors from men through cringeworthy caricatures made any point about the dangers of Nice Guys land really weakly. not to pit margot robbie-produced 2020 films against one another, but i think birds of prey might be what this movie thinks it is.
